Laga recommended in Legal 500 EMEA 2009

Laga has received strong recommendations from one of the world's leading legal directories, the Legal 500 Europe, Middle east and Asia guide for 2009.

Laga was ranked by the Legal 500 no less than 9 times for its quality and dedication to clients over the last year. Needless to say, the firm is very pleased to receive such acknowledgement and continues to maintain a position at the forefront of the Belgian legal market.

Laga's business law practices received distinguished recommendations.

The Legal 500 noted that Laga's Banking and finance team continued to "prosper under the guidance of Werner Van Lembergen" and confirmed its position within the top tiers due to its "proven experience" and competency on high profile instructions such as the refinancing agreements for Pinguin.

Also ranked within the top tiers is Laga's Corporate and M&A team led by Hilde Laga. Clients valued the advice they received from Hilde and her team and were recommended for their "full and frank delivery conveyed with great competence". The Legal 500 also praised Tim Baart for his involvement within the Corporate law practice.

Benoît Nibelle and David Roelens were recommended for their work in Real estate providing "a high level of confidence in their ability to deliver accurate results speedily". Such comments and credentials including the renovation and expansion of the Bozar Fine Arts Center in Brussels placed the department high above its peers.

Practices that received the highest ranking include the Employment law team which was praised for its "‘wide range of knowledge regarding all employment queries", "strong advisory offering" and "impressive litigation practice". Head of Employment law, Erwin Vandervelde was noted leading the team to such a success.

Another practice that received its first and impressive ranking was Laga's Fraud and white-collar crime team led by Johan Speecke and recognised figure within Belgian tax litigation. this recommendation was boosted by the arrival of new partner Jürgen Egger to the firm.

Laga's Tax and Dispute resolution practices received noteworthy rankings with Werner Van Lembergen and Benoît Nibelle each receiving additional recommendations for their work with the Tax department, and Bart De Moor (currently no longer with the firm) for his work on Dispute resolution.

Finally, the Intellectual Property and Information technology team received merit for its ability to "balance trade mark matters with business reality". Team leader Bart Lieben was recommended for his direction of the Sunrise process with clients stating that Laga's IT-IP team is "commercially minded and will go beyond the initial remit".
