Hilde Laga interviewed by De Morgen on women in the board of directors, the bonus culture and corporate governance
The De Morgen newspaper met with the firm's managing partner Hilde Laga during the Laga Forum 2011. In the interview, she comments on the possibility of legislation mandating higher Female representation in boards of directors. Hilde also discusses the use of bonuses and whether companies really need corporate governance to operate ethically.
Although Hilde Laga maintains a neutral stance regarding the possibility of laws which would enforce a minimum number of women in boards of directors, she believes it is important to continuously build awareness around the issue as it may be enough to bring more improvements.
When asked whether she believes in self-regulation, Hilde replied that she values corporate governance as well as company laws. She continues by stating that it is the balanced and complementary application of both which encourages companies to function ethically.
Regarding the topical subject of bonuses, Hilde Laga believes that this issue is best looked at in a broader perspective. She continues by saying that it is the excessiveness of the bonus culture in some sectors which has provoked regulatory action.
